Sameera Malik, MSW, LCSW
I am a behavioral therapist which means that I subscribe to behavior-focused, outcome-driven, action-based treatments. I have seen that without the ability to effectively manage and cope with life’s demands and expectations, a person’s world can become a place filled with missed connections, opportunities and experiences, a place of avoidable suffering often fueled by feelings of isolation and loneliness. Often, once client's graduate from our program, the symptoms and/or diagnosis that brought them to treatment are resolved as well.
I teach clients strategies to identify, express, and regulate their emotions, tolerate distress, and open themselves up to life's offerings. These skills increase the chances for the creation and maintenance of healthy interpersonal relationships and feelings of belonging and connection with others and their surroundings . My clinical framework is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and I specialize in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT). In other words, the focus is on changing maladaptive behaviors through understanding actions, thoughts and feelings and learning specific skills to address them effectively. Treatment plans are individualized and draw from a wide range of modalities and techniques to achieve desired outcomes.
I work best with those motivated for change and ready to commit to a different life. Every day, with each client, I call upon years of varied academic, personal and professional experiences and skills to enhance and strengthen the therapeutic relationship. It is this foundation that fosters an environment in which healing can manifest itself. I am humbled to be entrusted with my clients’ life stories, inspired by their dedication and courage and thrilled to see them living life in ways they could not imagine.
